Susanne Kunkel is a researcher in the Simulation Lab Neuroscience at the Jülich Supercomputing Centre, JSC. She studied Bioinformatics at the Friedrich-Schiller University Jena and carried out her PhD research at the Albert-Ludwig University Freiburg, the RIKEN Brain Science Institute, Japan, and the Jülich Research Centre. She was a member of the Next-Generation Supercomputer Project of MEXT in Japan and is now a visiting scientist at the RIKEN Advanced Institute for Computational Science in Kobe, Japan. Her research focuses on the development of high-performance simulation software for large spiking neuronal networks as well as on stimulus-driven development of functional structure in such systems.
