Two main ideas provide a basis of distributed information systems: organizational and physical distribution of users that work with public data – on the one hand, logical and physical distribution of the data coordinated among themselves – on the other hand. Nowadays modeling of contemporary distributed information systems is directly linked with relational and object-oriented databases that lately became firmly established as the main means of data processing in information systems of various scales – from large applications of transactions processing in bank systems to individual systems on PC.
At the present time there are numerous database management systems (DBMS) which make an implementation of distributed architecture possible. Distributed information systems are a very convenient solution to numerous problems of data storage, security, and public access. An overwhelming majority of large modern companies take advantage of them.
The course starts with an overview of IT development for information systems modelling of modern enterprises. After, the attendees will learn the main stages in the development of large distributed information systems by means of realization of distributed architecture, problems of their implementation, support, and protection.
