Environmental technology: lecture proposal
This lecture should give an introduction to Cleaner Production and how to implement different strategies in order to minimize the negative environmental impact from industries. Also, present different technological measurements (both external and internal) that can be used in order to reduce the environmental impact from a process.
Technologies to be described:
- Absorption (scrubbing)
- Adsorption
- Catalytic reduction
- Chemical precipitation
- Condensation
- Ion exchange
- Membrane filtration
Workshop/seminar proposal
Case study 1: Energy production using municipal waste/coal/oil/biofuels (participants decide)
The plan is to study and discuss the different strategies and techniques to use in order to decrease environmental problems connected to energy production using municipal waste/oil/coal/biofuels.
- Find the general strategies to minimize the impact of an industry
- Have a discussion about the content in municipal waste/oil/coal
- Find/locate the different problem areas (emission location, where/why is it formed?)
- Apply the knowledge from the lecture to this case
Case study 2: Iron and steel industry
The plan is to study and discuss the different strategies and techniques to use in order to decrease environmental problems connected to the production of iron and steel.
- Find the general strategies to minimize the impact of an industry
- Have a discussion about the content in municipal waste/oil/coal
- Find/locate the different problem areas (emission location, where/why is it formed?)
- Apply the knowledge from the lecture to this case
Case study X: Own suggestion? For example paper and pulp industry, aluminum production, paint production etc.
Language of the course - English.
