The course gives an introduction into the principles of communication between neural cells via synapses. We present basic mathematical models of chemical synapses, models of short-term and long-term plasticity and discuss the influence of synaptic properties on information transmission between single cells and on behavior of neural networks. Using several examples we show how these properties can be utilized to explain certain biologically relevant phenomena.

Language of the course - English/Russian.
