As a student, have you ever wondered how your academic knowledge can be applied in real life to create value for human kind? Could you imagine that spatial deformation techniques would help someone have his broken jaw bone in-grow back to normal state? Or that NURBS surfaces could ever be used to recover part of one’s damaged skull?
Applied research is our specialization, and working for a better, healthier world is our company’s mission.
Materialise company is best known for its achievements in industrial and medical rapid prototyping. As research team we face various algorithmic tasks within such domains as computational geometry, image processing, numerical methods. Our Digital CAD kernel is used in complex processes with large volumes of data, therefore our algorithms are required to satisfy quite strict speed and quality constraints.
We will show you some outstanding examples of how computer science achievements become essential for medical industry, presenting you different real life challenges being transformed into mathematical problems and after that effectively solved.
Materialise solutions in 3d modeling and rapid prototyping for medical and engineering purposes
This course is aimed to show the features and methods of 3-d modeling based on CT and MRI imaging and future utilizing of the models for planning and CAD of medical and engineering devices. Main steps of patient specific medical devices developing and producing will be described and illustrated with real cases. Innovative systems of pre- and post- operative plans, as well as future (FEA, air and liquid flow) analysis of the 3-d models will be discussed.
Tutors of the course:
M. Rybak, Materialise, Ukraine
A. Naumovets, Materialise, Ukraine
