Nana VoitenkoDoctor of Biological Sciences, Associate Professor, Deputy Director.

Courses on AACIMP 2011 — Molecular Mechanisms of Pain.

Country — Ukraine.

Place of employment: Bohomoletz Institute of Physiology NSAU, Department of General Physiology of Nervous System; assistant head of Department of Molecular Physiology and Biophysics, Kyiv branch of Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology.

Spheres of science researches: Neurobiology of pain, pain signaling pathways, nociceptive signaling in sensory and dorsal horn spinal cord neurons, biophysical property of calcium channels, intracellular calcium signaling.

Scientific interests: The main scientific interest is to find evidence for modification in function of calcium-regulated mechanisms, such as calcium channels and glutamate receptors, in nociceptive neurons taking place in different neuropathic and inflammatory pain models. Research team, headed by Dr. Nana Voitenko, performs simultaneous measurement of intracellular calcium concentrations and membrane currents in sensory and dorsal horn neurons as well behavioral tests in vivo. This allowed to associate changes in cellular molecular mechanisms with certain behavioral abnormalities. This insight should have an important impact on the design of novel analgesic therapies.
