Applied Computer Science stream

This year participants of ACS stream will study different aspects of data science. We will cover data retrieval and storage techniques, look into some basic methods of statistical analysis, data mining and machine learning, provide overview for data visualisation techniques and data analysis tools. We will supplement lectures with interesting real-world applications as image processing, bioinformatics, social network analysis, natural language processing etc. In addition, we will conduct a number of practices to apply gained theoretical knowledge and train skills.

Courses of the stream are:

  • Data Management (6 h)
  • Advanced Data Management (2 h)
  • Storing and Processing Large Amounts of Data in Real life (2 h)
  • ABCs of Machine Learning (12 h)
  • Predictive Modelling using R (8 h)
  • Data Visualization (3 h)
  • Natural Language Processing (6 h)
  • Unsupervised Language Learning (10 h)
  • Recommender Systems on the Web (8 h)
  • Speech Recognition (8 h)
  • Satellite Image Processing (4 h)
  • Cryptography for Cloud Security (4 h)

Prerequisites: Basic calculus, basic probability theory and statistics, some previous experience with Python programming language (or C++, or Java), desire to explore and discover.
