Financial Mathematics and Related Topics in Economics and Development
Course duration: 8 h
When we hear or read "Financial Mathematics", we may easily think of "Financial Crisis", "Financial Bubbles", of many problems in the real world and of highly complicated mathematical formulas that were hard to understand and hard to apply when trying to solve those urgent and challenging. But:
In our substream of the OR Stream at our Summer School 2014, we will include all these ideas and sentiments and we will present the modern financial sector and its mathematics in an understandable while still challenging and inspiring way, in a scientific and at the same time human way. This approach will need us all – the community of teachers and listeners where everyone is at the sides of the giver and of the taker. We will together prepare an atmosphere of togetherness which will allow a common sense of willingness to learn a lot, to understand deeply and let our minds meet in the discussion of today's problems and of a preparation for a better tomorrow.
The financial sector will be reflected as some equivalent or counterpart of interests, needs and desires of individuals, of groups, of economies and of the environment. We will discuss the various tradeoffs between those objectives and propose their implementations, in a lively way that will, of course, include the use of modern mathematical methods also. When looking at those methods we will always wonder and figure out together what is behind and what could be done.
It will be the foundations and the state-of-the-art in modern research on finance and economics that we study and exchange about with joy and enthusiasm.
These lectures are prepared to include both essential knowledge on economics, finance and related subjects in a nutshell and, most importantly, the perspectives and directions of ongoing and most challenging research. The communication will be understandable and letting the listeners become active participants and scientists in this intellectual and social endeavor and reaching-out.
We will celebrate a "festival of science and friendship" in unforgettable days of Kyiv 2014, to be there for each other also in future, and to receive fresh energy and encouragement for our lives and for improving the living conditions and future chances on earth.
