 Dr. Ruben Tikidji-Hamburyan

 the founder of Neuroscience stream

- How did you get to know about the Summer School AACIMP? Was it your first time in Ukraine? Do you remember your first impression?
My scientific adviser got the invitation. She was busy and asked me, if I would like to attend. It was my first visit to Kiev. I had been to Ukraine before, but never in Kiev. It was my first lecture in my entire life and my first experience in teaching. I was quite nervous. I remember I was surprised by the architecture of old KPI buildings. They are absolutely beautiful. I was proud to teach in this historical place, within the walls which remember Mendeleev, Korolev, Sikorsky and a big constellation of great Russian scientists and engineers.
- Why have you been supporting the project for such a long time? Did you expect it to be a long-term project?
I was shocked when I realized that school was organized by students. I cannot say that there weren't mistakes or problems, but I see progress every single year. This inspires and encourages to support.
Yes, I did expect.
- What are the milestones of the project history?
First of all, it was the moment when the school got an international orientation. It wasn’t an international school yet, but a new western style appeared. The second one is a stream organization. It was an interesting idea.
I got an advantage of that reorganization for my ‘sordid motives’ and organized Neuroscience stream.
What do you think is the most essential in the project?
It’s hard to say. I like how AACIMP team works as well as its substantial improvements. I think the most essential is that it is a flexible project with a lot of degrees of freedom but with pure aims and clear ideas.
- Do you remember any funny stories connected to AACIMP?
Yes, a lot, but no comments.
Do you think the Summer School AACIMP is a unique project? Why?
Yes I think so. Mostly it is unique because it is run by students. It is based on enthusiasm and hard work of young ambitious scientists.
- What is the most valuable aspect of the project?
I could say it with one word: Knowledge. My goal in this project is to arouse interest to science, to bring a big feeling of awe, when you got a chance to find an answer to some riddles of the Nature.

the head of Student Science Association of Kyiv Polytechnic Institute and the responsible for Work with Organizing Committee and Volunteers of the Summer School AACIMP 2015

- When did you join the Summer School AACIMP?
I joined the Summer School team in 2011, so it is already my 5th year in this project.
- Do you consider AACIMP a unique project? Why?
AACIMP is an absolutely unique project. It is made by young people of passionate attitude to science knowing for sure that science is not boring. The Summer School is undoubtedly the major project of Student Science Association of KPI, which unites the alumni and new members of our team. This annual conversion makes every next School unique.
- How has the project influenced your life?
This project has brought to me the belief that there is nothing impossible and all borders are only in our mind. And of course thanks to Summer School I have met many amazing people from all over the world.
- Were there any love stories?
Yes, I can tell about a remarkable one with a happy ending. Inna - an organizing team member, and Vadim - a participant from St. Petersburg, met at the Summer School. And...they are married now. They have moved to the Netherlands recently, and from time to time they send nice postcards from there. So Summer School connects hearts and nations :).
- You have already graduated from the university. Why do you still support the project?
Yes, I have already graduated from the university, but I still support the project, because I absolutely share the project's ideas and goals. It is a big pleasure to see that the Summer School helps many students and young scientists from Ukraine and all over the world to find their own way and open new aspects of science.
The last but not least is the opportunity to work in an amazing team. Even geographical borders, time difference and our team being intercontinental do not interfere with our plans.

the Work with Lecturers / Work with Participants Coordinator at AACIMP 2015

- When did you join the Summer School AACIMP?
For the first time I joined Summer School just after my first year at NTUU “KPI” in 2009. I was asked to practice my spoken English and communicate with international participants during the project.
Please, name the funniest stories happened to you or others during the project.
A great number of humorous scenes have happened during these years and it is difficult to pick one. One of my first recollections is the trip to Pyrohovo in 2010 when we began the tradition of water-bombing each other under the scorching sun in August.
- Were there any love stories?
Of course there were, but they were usually kept private during Summer School and the Organising Team found out only long time after. For example, in 2010 we had at least two couples - students of KPI, who got engaged last year, and participants from Turkey and Hungary, who got married a year after they met at AACIMP. This trend continues from year to year and I guess it would be true to say that Summer School “unites hearts”!
But we should not forget that Summer School may be definitely a meeting place with your future employer or employee, thesis advisor or potential colleague in your research - so many links and productive bonds have been established already.
- Please, name the most crucial points of the AACIMP history?
In my opinion, one of them was a complete transition towards English in 2010 - when all the classes were taught in English and both participants and lecturers as well as organisers were encouraged to communicate in English. It was almost like we’ve brought “abroad” here to Kyiv, to KPI.
- Why are you still supporting the project?
The guys from the Organising Team have become my friends already. It's a great pleasure to work in the team of active and thoughtful people, who never give up despite all the obstacles they may face. They are serious about their self-development and want to make changes in the world around.

the organiser of AACIMP (2009-2012)

- When did you join the Summer School AACIMP?
I joined Summer School in 2009.
- Were there any love stories?
As for the love stories, one of them is my own - I've met the man whom I then married at Summer School.
- Do you consider AACIMP a unique project? Why?
Summer School is a unique project, because it is made with love, passion, creativity of young bright people and it attracts the same kind of participants and tutors. It's a way to experience science , culture , communication , emotions at the same time! I never thought it would be the other way around.
- Please, name the most crucial points of the AACIMP history.
I think the most crucial were: when the program got divided into streams, that was an acheivement, also when the amount of applications grew too big for everyone to be accepted. Also, when English became the working language, because before we had courses in 3 languages, as well as the website. The times I participated in the project are the brightest memories and the most diverse emotions for me!
