Program

Photovoltaics and Building Integrated Photovoltaics

Duration:2 h

Building integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV) is starting to grow. BIPV products serve a secondary architectural purpose, such as tiles or windows, as well as producing power. Dr.Harter will give an overview of BIPV solutions & applications: standard in-roof systems, semi-transparent systems (glass/glass modules), solar tiles and shingles, flexible laminates etc. Also he will speak about the development of innovative applications for the solar industry - lightweight, flexible solar modules with a variety of possible applications developed by DAS Energy.

“Cloud” computing in energy performance of buildings

The first place in the list of the most important “IT-revolutions” in the near future belongs to the development of so called “cloud computing” – providing remote computing ability, footprint (“clouds”) and communication channels for customers. The reason, which promotes using of “cloud” computing, are the high costs for program licenses for stationary workstations, rent of space, electricity and control of software piracy. By “clouds” computing centers are meant, which are significantly more powerful than user’s stationary equipment.

Taking into account that at present almost all computers, on which engineering calculations are carried out, have constant high-speed connection to the Internet, a new technology for "cloud" computing in energy performance is proposed on the base of Internet server . The calculation server proposes three options of calculations in energy performance: on-line calculations download and reference. Online resources give a possibility to do "cloud" calculations of energy performance in an interactive mode in accordance with input data of a user. The procedure of downloading enables to download ready-made templates for calculations. The reference procedure gives a possibility to do reference to templates stored on the or in “clouds” for developing further computing in energy performance of buildings.

Keywords:

  • Cloud Basics: What is a Cloud?
  • Using Internet server in calculations of energy performance.

Pre-requisites: basic knowledge on thermodynamics, heat transfer, mathematics and MathCAD.

Resources for energy saving in building glazing

 Duration: 1 h

The problem of application of energy saving materials in residential buildings construction is well known in Ukraine. As a result: huge energy losses, inefficient utilization of energy resources, energy-dependence, etc. A window is one of such building elements. Selecting windows, many consumers do not pay due attention to importance of insulating glass in the window. Although, 80-90% of function of the window and its energy efficiency depends on insulating glass functions in this window. What is an energy efficient insulating glass? How is it produced and how does it work? If it is a double insulating glass unit, there is one thermal insulation glass in it, and in case of a triple, such insulating glass unit contains two thermal insulation glasses, so in comparison with conventional glass, there is silver coating on the surface. Silver layer is so thin, that it does not block the sunlight. Energy saving insulating glass reflects the heat from the side of premises in winter, and from the side of a street – in summer. In this way, thermal insulation glass keeps heat balance, which provides warmth in winter and coolness in summer. This reduces your expenses for application of heaters and air-conditioners.

Glas Troesch company is a Swiss family enterprise, which started manufacture of insulating glass in 1956 and entered the market in coated glass and introduced high thermal insulation glass in 1988. The company has a huge many years’ experience and ready to share it in Ukraine, informing about importance of energy saving insulating glass and promoting its application.
