Improvement of Traffic Signaling System Data Management: a Case Study of Kyiv

Abstract

The project aims to involve the students into a real case about traffic signaling system that is useful both for students and the city. Traffic signaling system in Kyiv is obsolete: there is no joint signaling system; moreover, the signaling data is kept either on paper, or in graphic format. This way of data management makes it impossible to introduce an intelligent transport system (ITS) or its fragments. Also, it makes transport modelling much more complicated and time consuming process, because the only way traffic signal data can be used in modeling, is manual copying from the source to the modeling software.
This project’s goal is to develop a computer-based data management system, based on open source solutions. The system should include data editing mode, database server, and data output block that will be able to produce data in different forms and for different users. It is critical for the project team to find a cost-effective and implementable solution.

Project prerequisites :

  • Web-development skills
  • Good command in database systems

  • Programming and algorithm designing skills
