Course coordinator — Prof. Alexander Makarenko, Institute for Applied System Analysis at National Technical University of Ukraine “KPI”, Ukraine.

Language of the course — English.

A thought that processes, which take place in the society, unlike physical or chemical, are too complicated and many-sided to be described mathematically is widely spread. But in fact modern development of knowledge in physics, mathematics, biology, cybernetics and system analysis gives an opportunity to make such description and to model global social phenomena and processes.

From this course the students will be able to know about possibilities to apply system analysis for understanding, prediction and planning of social systems. New problems and ways of their solving will be formulated and reconsidered. Lecturers will rise such issues and phenomena as globalization, history of civilization, formulation of public thought, spread of terrorism, financial prediction, urban sprawl, electronic government, voting etc. The lecturers will offer new ways of solving problems in mathematical modeling of social processes and systems: cellular automata, differential equations, network models and so on.

In addition, participants of the Summer School will be able to listen to a lecture by Prof. Stepan Moskaliuk: “Academic security for stability and progress”.

Other course tutors:

Prof. Sara Manzoni, Complex Systems and Artificial Intelligence (CSAI) research center at University of Milano-Bicocca.

Prof. Stepan Moskaliuk, Austro-Ukrainian Institute for Science and Technology (Vienna), Bogoliubov Institute for Theoretical Physics of NASU (Kyiv).
