Abstract:

There are a lot of historical places and monuments in Ukraine and especially in Kyiv. No matter, how beautiful they are, time and people are not very gentle to them. However, every problem has a solution. In this case, 3D scanning technologies are the best remedy.

3D-scanning and 3D-design are the best way to preserve historical sites and heritage assets. Thanks to the technologies, one can make a solution to give the whole world the opportunity of enjoying the most beautiful places around the planet. Now a witty person equipped with a good camera and software can create an accurate digital model of a real object.

Such common technologies as Virtual Reality and 3D Printing allows creating different parts of reality, be it virtual or real. A digital model is a way to create a real copy of monuments and their virtual environment so that any person around the globe can teleport there equipped with nothing but a VR headset.

At Summer School we will create a digital model of a real KPI monument commemorating Ihor Sikorsky, a great engineer. This monument will be a good example of how people can create digital worlds with their phone-cameras.

Pre-requisites: being aware of basic principles of 3D-printing and computer graphics, scanning and design.
